Dental and orthodontic technology is not static, and what is available to today’s orthodontists is much different than what they had even a decade ago. These advances in technology allow for quicker, safer and better orthodontic care. So, what are some of the latest trends in orthodontic treatment technology?
Smile Design Systems
With the advancement of computer and 3-D technology, new software has become available for orthodontists to use to create a future image of what a smile will look like after treatment. This not only allows orthodontists to make more detailed treatment plans, but also gives the patient a glimpse into the future, showing what the final product will be.
Invisible Braces
Perhaps the most well-known latest trend is the emergence of invisible braces. The most common and well-known of these clear aligners is Invisalign, although other options also exist. Clear braces allow patients to undergo quick and effective treatment, while not being inconvenienced by a mouth full of metal and elastics that more traditional braces required. This trend has allowed the working professional to undergo treatment, while still keeping up appearances.
CBCT Scanning
Orthodontists have traditionally used X-rays to look at images of a patients jaw, skull and oral bones to determine issues and create treatment plans. Unfortunately, x-rays are limited as they only provide a 2D flat image. Cone Beam CT Scanners are becoming more popular amongst orthodontists, as this technology gives a full 3D image of the patient, and allows for a more accurate diagnosis, and more personalize treatment plan for each patient.
With how quickly technology keeps changing, it is exciting to think about what could even be available in 10 years from now for orthodontic treatment. But with this in mind, there has never been a better time in our history for safe, effective treatment. Give Dr. B Hicks a call today.
