rnAh! The holidays have unfortunately come to end! Holidays are always filled with fun and food and then, later on, more food and sweets. Enjoying the holidays while keeping your teeth healthy amidst all the seasonal food and sweets can be a challenge, so now that they are over, letÂ’s remember some important points.rnrnHere are some tips on how to have fun without ruining your teeth in the process.rnrn1. Avoid over doing the candy opportunities. It may seem like there are so many sweets, and so little time. Candy canes, popcorn balls, cookies, chocolates a nonstop buffet of sweets will wreak havoc on your teeth and your weight, so think before you eat. Eat a single, really lovely dessert instead of grazing all day on candy. After you eat, brush your teeth. This way you save your teeth from constant exposure to sugar. If you cannot brush, rinse and brush later, or as soon as you can.rnrn2. Snack smart. Never use your teeth to crack a nut. Use a nutcracker. This saves your teeth and slows eating, by requiring you to stop, crack a nut, pick out the nut eat it and repeat. And never bit into hard candy, let it soften before you chew.rnrn3. Keep to your routine. Holidays tend to upset our routines but donÂ’t let that happen. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, and more if possible. Carry a toothbrush and toothpaste with you so that you can brush after meals wherever you are. If you canÂ’t brush, rinse your mouth and chew sugarless gum. This boosts saliva and helps to flush out food debris.rnrn4. Honor appointments. DonÂ’t skip your dental exams and checkups even if they fall during the holiday season. Consider it a present to yourself, one that will keep your teeth and gums healthy.rnrn5. Stay prepared. Pack dental floss, gauze and over-the-counter pain relievers in case you have to deal with a minor dental problem while you are in the midst of any holiday travels.rn
